UNLEASHING THE POWER OF COMPASSIONATE LEADERSHIP
Dr. Lown will speak about “Unleashing the power of compassionate Leadership”. Join us for a presentation and discussion of compassionate leadership as Dr. Lown shares stories, examples, strategies and data on outcomes. She hopes to motivate attendees with the message that we can all lead with compassion and be agents of compassionate culture change.

Dr. Beth Lown, The Schwartz Centre for Compassionate Healthcare, Harvard University
Dr. Lown has been deeply involved in the practice, teaching, exploratory research, and assessment of healthcare-related empathy, compassion, relational, and communication skills. She is Associate Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, Chief Medical Officer of the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare. She is an internist at Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, MA, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, where she directs the interprofessional Fellowship in Health Professional Education.
As Chief Medical Officer of the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare, Dr. Lown contributes to the spread of Schwartz Rounds internationally and assesses their impact. She develops theoretical and scientific content, actionable frameworks and programs to teach and sustain communication, collaboration and compassion. With her team and collaborators, she creates implements and evaluates new courses and programs, convenes conferences, and researches compassion-related topics and measures.
Dr. Lown is a Fellow of the Academy on Communication in Healthcare. When President and Board Member of the American Academy on Communication in Healthcare, she worked with the European Academy on Communication in Healthcare to initiate partnerships and international conferences. She has served in many roles for the National Board of Medical Examiners and United States Medical Licensing Examination, working on communication skills task forces, test materials development, standard setting committees and consulting teams as a content expert in communication skills. Dr. Lown speaks nationally and internationally about empathy, compassion, communication and relationships, and how healthcare structures and processes influence professional wellbeing and compassion capacity.
