THE POWER OF SMALL STEPS
Quality Improvement (QI) is gaining momentum in health care as a way of improving the patient experience as well as achieving better care outcomes and efficiencies. This presentation will explore its role in palliative care. It will highlight the power of making small incremental changes over time and the unique potential of QI to bring joy back to the workplace for the health care provider.
At the end of this presentation, participants should be able to:
- Defend the role of quality improvement and its various approaches in palliative care;
- Describe the quadruple aim and its relevancy for palliative care-related QI;
- Analyze your own attitudes towards QI
- List some useful national and provincial QI resources
Dr. José Pereira
Dr. José Pereira is Director of Research at the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been leading the College’s national quality improvement program, the Practice Improvement Initiative (Pii). He is the Gilchrist Chair of Palliative Care at Queen’s University and Lakeridge Health in Ontario and has academic affiliations with the Departments of Family Medicine at Mcmaster and the University of Ottawa. He is also the Chief Scientific Officer of Pallium Canada.
